I found it hard to find, but the NOTES file in /usr/src/sys/i386/conf (or /usr/src/sys/YOUR_ARCHITECTURE/conf) is in FreeBSD 5.x what the LINT file was in FreeBSD 4.x. All the things you can put in the kernel configuration file are located there. A very helpful file!
